Clearing the UW
As many of you know, Jet, Zav, and myself recently managed to clear the Underworld. First, I think it's needed to define what I mean by "clearing". Specifically, it's completing all 10 quests in the zone in a single visit. The goals of this build system were many: -- Reliably complete the goal. -- Allow as many different classes to play as possible. -- Not rely on any gimmick builds where a single skill mod will completely nullify the team build. The Underworld is a harsh place. There are seven distinct zones, each dominated by different classes of monsters: -- Chamber: Warriors w/ a few necros -- Ice Wastes: Smiting Monks w/ a few water eles -- The Vale: Water Eles and Warriors -- Serpent Mountain: Rangers w/ a few air eles -- Chaos Planes: Mesmers, Mesmers, Mesmers! -- Spawning Pools: Fire Eles and Air Eles -- Bone Pit: Necros, Necros, Necros! In addition, the quests pose additional issues, such as: -- Must survive NPCs, sometimes in safe places, sometimes in the midst of the battle. -- Creatures that can't take any damage, but die if their master is killed. -- Utterly insane amounts of damage from some places (like >300 a hit) -- Pop-up Enchantment strippers. -- Boss Siege from two sides, with NPC in the middle. -- 26 dryders popping up in one spot. As such, no single attack plan will survive throughout the entire UW, so the team must be flexible in how it can respond to situations. Linked here is the set of builds we came up with.
