Polymock Fun or Frustrating Mini-game?
I am embarrased to say that I battled Plurgg(2nd polymock foe) for an hour and a half with no success untill I found on Guildwars Guru what at first seemed like the stupidest strategy evar! Let me first say that the general strategy on the wiki is fine except for Plurgg, use Gargoyle, Scale and Fire Imp in that order. Now for what seems like a formula to get your butt kicked that will get you all those cool Summons creatures.
1. Don't look at the other player, focus solely on your skill bar. No Strafing, dodging, trying to interrupt, just stand there and use your skills.
2. Start off with Polymock Block then your 1 second cast time high damage spell, then Glyph of concentration and your 2 sec high dmg skill.
Hit Polymock Power Drain and Spam skill #1 and hit the other skills as they recharge. When your health gets below 50% use Polymock Glyph of Power and a dmg skill everytime it recharges, it can make the difference in battle.
3. Watch the energy, with practice you will know what energy the skills use and can get the most out of the battle when your energy is getting low.
This may sound nuts, but I went right back to my buddy Plurgg and was stunned when I won the first time around at home on dial-up even. I proceeded to whip all the rest with one try until I got to Hoff, his Smiter monk stumped me twice, but he went down on the third try.
Thats pretty much it, and I just used the polymock pieces that were rewards for victorys and took the wikis advice on placement order.

Yes, the key to polymock is to not overthink things. Dodging and interrupts actually make things more difficult.

Sorry to dredge this up, but to me Blarpp is an immovable force... or something.
Any revised strategy? Which pieces should I choose? I've got the fire imp and kappa, of course. I've gotten close, but am always playing catch-up.

It has been too long for me to remember specifics. Try this: http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Polymock. It lays out which pieces should be used when. It is terribly frustrating and the skills are not worth it IMO. Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support beats them by far (if you throw a hex on first, that is).

What hex is that?
I'm sure you're right about Assassin Support, but this is for my Necro who I've been ranking in Asura (my Ranger is Ebon V, my Warrior is Deldrimor). Besides, I'm finding that I suck at targeting minions-compared to hero MMs-so the easier it is for me to keep a crowd, the better.

Any hex will do, the summoned assassin has Iron Palm, a skill that causes knock down to a hexed target.

My solution to the Polymock Challenge: Spend some money 10k-25k on a Ruby Djinn Polymock Piece. They are by far the best one out of all the pieces. I bought my Ruby Djinn Piece for 10k and have never looked back :D A great purchase.

I did it! I got my Mursaat! I followed the Wiki recommendations for pieces and beat them all on the first or second try.
The "big spell- block- concentrate- second big spell- drain- spam small attack" seems to shut them down for a bit and gives you a damage advantage. After that, it's all about managing energy to keep up the blocks while having enough energy when your big skills are recharged.
I don't know if I've seen polymock pieces for trade. Are they readily available? Has anyone bothered playing after completing the quests?

Congrats! I think that the polymock games are some of the most frustrating in GW.
There are a few pieces being
traded. I have not gone back to do anything with Polymock. I took one toon through, and that was enough for me. I have not even used the asuran summons skills, although it might be fun to try a mission with just those skills.

Yeah, I get the impression that the mursaat summon is more of a status symbol, or a way to confuse your teammates in the Southern Shiverpeaks...
Does anyone do Barrage/Pet rangers anymore? I'd think a constant asuran summon and Ebon V Assassin Support would work without spending the attribute points on Beast Mastery.

Those summons are quite expensive, considering that they are not affected by expertise. I would rather spend the points on Splinter Weapon, and let the MM make the meat.
kilgore- 08-26-2008
Okay, I'm getting OT a bit...
Yeah, splintering works well, but I like having 13 Expertise and 15 Marksmanship, using EotN skills to boost damage like "I am the Strongest" and/or Ebon Battle Standard of Honor. The 13 Ex gives a few extra seconds of lightning reflexes/whirling defense and the energy savings allows for the non-ranger spells.
Besides, the summons can cast some useful spells, especially if you can get someone's Naga to buddy up with your Mursaat. Sometimes I just get lonely and like to have an ice imp to keep me company for 45..60 seconds.

I have to brag a bit...
I just put my newest character through the Polymock quests using just the skale, gargoyle and Earth elemental (that I saved from my last character). Teardrinker and Hoff took a few tries, since there a bit of chance in getting in good interrupts in while avoiding theirs, but it's doable. I sold my unused purples.

Frankly, I have never played Polymock. After having heard plenty of stories about what a pain it is, I haven't bothered trying it out. I also recently got a gold Polymock piece (can't remember which one at the moment) but have not yet tried using it or selling it.
