Solo Farming in Hard Mode
I was just wondering (1) if anyone else farms in HM, and if so, (2) what build do you use, and (3) where do you farm? I have focused on HM farming since I am interested in accumulating gold item drops (to help Pierce with his Wisdom title), and there are no drawbacks to farming the same areas over and over again. Presently I have been HM farming outside of Bergen Hot Springs with my 55 monk. While I have gotten about 10 golds (including a nice 15^50 R9 Dead Bow), I would really prefer to farm in an area where I have the ability to get inscribable weapons. While I am able to solo farm in regular and HM in the Underworld (using my 55 monk), it is also somewhat tedious. And of course, in HM it is REALLY challenging - not to mention less rewarding since I can't kill the smites in HM. I have checked the basic 55 farming locations on PvX Wiki, but they don't have anything new posted - and nothing is suggested in any area that drops incribable weapons, such as Elona and GW:EN (although GW:EN can't be farmed in HM, since there presently isn't a HM in GW:EN). So, any thoughts or suggestions in locations? Thanks for your feedback!

I think I didn't mention this to you, but when I go outside Bergen, I continue on to Cursed Lands and clear out that area. The gold you get from vanquishing is not all that much, but still easy money. Another easy area that could be 55'ed is Plains of Jarin in HM.

Yea Bot Springs and the Cursed lands are a great places to farm. I have picked up lots of gold items (mostly merchant fodder but good for the wisdom title), Runes, and tomes (no elites yet and only the core 6 professions) there using a Mo/D build. One of my prized drops is a gold Dead Bow: Req 9, max damage, +5 energy, zealous string, and 20% longer enchantment (one day I'll get around to building an A/Ra to use it). I've also gotten allot of nice gold melee weapons hunting Mountain Minotaurs outside of Ice Tooth Cave with my Wammo. Is it just me or does HM turn out loads of zealous weapons? As for Nightfall spots, I have no idea. I thought about trying out the area on started island where you fight the undead sunspears, but haven't gotten around to it.

Gates of Kryta, with a Mo/N (SS and Insidous) and First City of Fahranur (Standard SoJ) are popular. First City is a little longer, especially with a few un-undead on the way, but it can has yielded multiple golds, greens (well, not good ones) and tomes for me. If you are looking for straight gold, you can try FFF with heroes and henchies. Although this is done in NM, in a half hour last night, I achieved 8400 faction, 42000 xp, and 3150 gold. My times include zoning in and out of town too. I don't have time to look it up now, but there is a quest in Turai's Procession where wave after wave of Margonite swarms in. Something to with the centaur's, if I recall. This quest can be farmed with Barrage, Splinter Weapon and a running skill.

My favorite haunts are First City and Hot Springs. Builds are pretty standard except First City adds another offensive Signet for the groups which are not undead. Can post if you want. While not HM Solo, I tried my first vanquish area this morning and came out with only bricks and a lockpick but 3.5 K.

I've also gotten allot of nice gold melee weapons hunting Mountain Minotaurs outside of Ice Tooth Cave with my Wammo. Is that regular or HM farming Chieftan? ___________________________________________________ I also am curious if anyone has been able to come up with a build to solo farm trolls in HM (in the troll cave just outside of Droks). I can easily farm the trolls (and giants beyond the cave) in that zone in NM, but in HM it is much more difficult because the enemies have self heals. Anyone have a solo build for HM in that area? Also, certainly I am willing to explore builds that don't involve my monk. While I usally farm with my monk, I am certainly not opposed to farming with one of my other characters if there is a more effective build to solo in HM. Regardless of the profession, it would be cool if people could post the builds they use for certain zones, as well as mentioning any special requirements (i.e. - specific weaponry or armor) and list if there are any specific tactics that have to be taken to make the build work (such as casting spells in a specific order) Thanks for the feedback! :D

For my suggestions, Jet, these threads should cover the info you need: Monking Around Consistant, but boring Income Sorry for the links to the slow site.

If it is golds you are after, don't forget to hit the Treasures in Elona each month with as many toons as you can. Free golds (mostly), free gold and some loot collected along the way is pretty hard to beat.

I've also gotten allot of nice gold melee weapons hunting Mountain Minotaurs outside of Ice Tooth Cave with my Wammo. Is that regular or HM farming Chieftan? I was doing it in HM but I went back the other day and didn't have much luck. But if you haven't farmed it you might come out better. I think I farmed it to heavy and havn't done enough to reset the code. One thing I'm liking about Role playing with my farming monk is that it seems to cause my drops to improve afterward.

Yea Bot Springs and the Cursed lands are a great places to farm. Chief, how far into the Cursed Lands can you get? There are three groups of rangers, even with a monk in thier party they are little trouble. There is a group of three Warlocks, though, that cause problems as soon as they get minions up. At the other end, three mesmers and a cleric - have not tried them yet.

Chieftain Heavyhand- 10-14-2007

I vanquished cursed lands solo with a Mo/D build.

Well, while not exactly "solo" farming, yesterday (which happened to be Pierce's second birthday) I did a bunch of SS/LB farming in HM out of Remains of Sahala . Surprisingly, with a 6 character crew I was able to make 25 platinum over the course of the afternoon and evening, as well as getting a few perfect items/mods that I didn't sell to the merchant (20/20 sundering bow string, a few decent inscriptions, a few regular tomes, and 1 elite tome). While not necessarily the fastest way to farm cash, and I don't need the SS/LB points on Pierce (since he already has the max SS/LB titles) it was a good way to make money, as well as up Pierce's Treasure Hunter and Wisdom titles (both of which are now at Level 3). And, while I wasn't really doing this to gain XP, as a consequence of this farming Pierce achieved 4 million XP. Of course, the best reason for doing SS/LB farming recently is because I have been spending alot of time logging in from my hotel room, and the internet connectivity is inconsistent. In true solo farming a pause in the internet connectivity would kill you in a heartbeat - while in the SS/LB runs the heros/hench do most of the work, and with 3000 health (when inside a wurm) you don't have to worry about instant death. But of course, once I get back to a stable high speed internet connection, I will need to give some of the other solo farming locations some more thought. I appreciate the links to the farming threads (especially the Monking Around thread) as that gave me some good insight. One of the other good solo farm threads I have seen for HM farming is 330hp Rt/Mo Vengeful Spirit Bonder - HM Farming! (good thread, although the guy has a big ego). While my Rit presenlty doesn't have VwK (I haven't gotten an elite Rit rune yet, and he hasn't made it to the location to cap the spell - yet), the bigger problem is that he has only been to maybe 5% of the GW globe - so I will need to get Rift to zones where he can farm. But, as mentioned by Dean, perhaps the best way would be having all my characters do a run through Elona for the Treasure Chests. Of course, the precursor would be getting the balance of my characters through the NF missions (Pierce has done them all, but the rest of my characters are at various early stages of NF mission progression. Since you don't need to be solo to do this, if anyone else wants to join me for advancing characters through NF and then subsequently doing chest runs, please let me know. (NOTE: According to Rod, it is better to do the Treasure Chests in reverse order for better loot, so I plan on doing this in 2 stages). :D

llaamaboy- 10-17-2007

If it is golds you are after, don't forget to hit the Treasures in Elona each month with as many toons as you can. Free golds (mostly), free gold and some loot collected along the way is pretty hard to beat. Each Month? Every 4 weeks? 12 times a year? Really? (I HAVE to read more ... ) ;)

Rod Adams- 10-17-2007

(NOTE: According to Rod, it is better to do the Treasure Chests in reverse order for better loot, so I plan on doing this in 2 stages). :D the rationale only applies to sucessive trips through. the first time through, hit them as you see them.

jetlaw- 10-17-2007

Ok, good to know Rod. So, we could hit them all as we progress new characters through NF, then go backwards on the later trips. As for the timing on the resetting of the Treasure Chests, I'm not sure anyone knows specifically how soon they re-set. I can say that last night was my first SS/LB run in a long time (at least 2 months) and yet the chest had not re-set. But even taking 1-2 characters a month through for chest runs (thus giving an approx. 3 month gap between chest runs for each character) could net a very impressive amount of cash and golds.
